Wine label printing, checked before print
WineLex prepares the back label and the e-label of your wine for every EU country where you sell it, checked by a specialist before printing. Then we have the labels printed by a partner label printer and delivered to the winery, or we send a print-ready PDF to your usual printer.
A specialist replies within 24 business hours. No commitment.

Why have the check and the printing done together?
Because most labelling errors are found too late, on printed rolls. When the same team checks the text and sends the file to print, the proof you approve is exactly what gets printed, and nobody retypes or resizes the legal text on the way.
Many reprints come from a small change made after the check: a designer enlarges the logo and the back-label text shrinks under 1.2 mm, a printer converts the file and the QR code loses its quiet zone, a new vintage is added and the energy value stays the old one. Keeping the check and the print file in the same hands removes those gaps.
You choose the paper (smooth, textured, wet-strength for ice buckets), the finish and the quantity. We send a quote with the price per label and the delivery time, then a proof to approve. Nothing is printed before your written approval.
What does wine label printing cost?
Public online prices for small wine labels start around €0.05 to €0.10 per label for a few thousand on rolls, and rise to €0.15 to €0.30 for short runs, large formats or hot foil. The exact price depends on size, paper, finish and quantity, so we quote each job.
| Job | Typical public price range per label | What changes the price |
|---|---|---|
| Small label, 1,000 on a roll, textured paper | ≈ €0.10 | Paper, number of colours |
| Same label, 5,000 on a roll | ≈ €0.05 | Quantity |
| With hot foil, 1,000 | ≈ €0.24, plus the foil tool | Finishing tools |
| Large front label, short run | €0.15 to €0.30 | Size, embossing, varnish |
Ranges from public online configurators, noted in November, prices incl. VAT. Your quote is calculated on your format and quantities.
What do we need for a printing quote?
The label size or the bottle model, the paper and finish if you know them, the quantity per wine, the roll direction for your labelling machine, the delivery address and the date you need the labels.
- Label size, or the bottle model and the space available on the glass.
- Paper and finish (hot foil, embossing, varnish) if you already know them. If not, we suggest two or three options with samples.
- Quantity per wine and per vintage.
- Roll direction, core diameter and outer diameter for your labelling machine, or sheets if you label by hand.
- Delivery address and the bottling date.
Which paper is best for wine labels?
Wet-strength paper for anything that goes into an ice bucket, textured or felt-marked paper for a classic look, and film labels for sparkling wines or wines sold chilled. The adhesive matters as much as the paper: it must hold on cold, damp glass.
- Wet-strength textured paper: the most common choice for still wines.
- Smooth coated paper: sharp colour and small text, less traditional.
- Film (PP, PE): resists water and ice, often used on sparkling wines.
- Adhesive for cold and wet bottling: needed if bottles are filled cold or stored in a humid cellar.
Can you print front labels, back labels and neck labels together?
Yes. Printing all the labels of a wine in one run keeps the colours consistent and lowers the cost. Front, back and neck labels can sit on the same roll in the order your labelling machine needs, or on separate rolls.
What about the colour, the paper and the proof?
We send a PDF proof with the legal text checked and the colours in the printer's profile. For a new design or a demanding paper, a physical proof can be ordered before the run. Colour on textured paper is always slightly different from the screen, which is why we recommend a physical proof for any new range.
Can I keep my current printer?
Yes. Many wineries keep their printer and only use our back label, check and e-label. We then deliver a checked, print-ready PDF with the dielines your printer gives us, and we review the printer's proof before you approve it.

Questions from winemakers
Do you print in small quantities?
Yes. Short runs of a few hundred labels are possible, at a higher price per label. For small wineries we often group the wines of one bottling in a single print run to lower the cost.
How long does printing take?
Usually one to two weeks after the proof is approved, depending on the paper and the finishing. Tell us your bottling date in the form and we plan backwards from it.
Who is responsible for the text on the printed label?
The winery remains legally responsible. Our job is to check every mention against the published texts before the file goes to print, and to show you the source of each one.

Selection criteria: we cite official texts first (EUR-Lex, national law portals), then named surveys with their publisher.
